Youth, Peace and Security

Youth-led organizations are driving transformative peace and security initiatives across Africa, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected regions. Inspired by global frameworks such as the Women, Peace, and Security agenda and UN Security Council Resolution 2250, which acknowledges the crucial role of youth in peacebuilding, young people have catalyzed actions globally. However, since its adoption in 2015, only a few countries, including Nigeria, have developed National Action Plans (NAPs) on Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS), leaving Ghana in the nascent stages of this process.

To address fragmented efforts and capacity gaps in youth-led peacebuilding, YAG is leading activities to establish Ghana’s Youth Coalition for Peace and Security and the organization of a National Youth Conference on Peace and Security. These initiatives aim to unify youth-led and youth-serving organizations, enhance policy influence, and foster resilience against radicalization and violent extremism. Together, they will empower Ghanaian youth to actively contribute to conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and democratic stability, thereby advancing the nation’s long-term development and inclusive growth. For further information, please visit https://ypsghana.org
